Prof. Soo Kwan PARK, IDC Executive Board Member, founded the Korea Eastern Folk Song Conservatory in Daegu and held the first entrance ceremony with 40 students admitted after fierce competition at the Eastern Folk Song Conservatory Gyeongju Campus in February 2016. The city of Daegu designated Eastern Folk Songs of Korea as the 19th intangible cultural heritage and Master Soo Kwan Park as a possessor of the songs on the 10th of March. The Eastern Folk Songs refer to traditional songs that have been passed down on the eastern part of Hamgyung Province, Gangwon Province, and Gyeongsang Province. The songs are full of vigor, yet are considered as the best ones to represent joys and sorrows of common people. They maintain original musical, literary, and folkloric characteristics very well.
